Sometimes a rollicking ride upon embarking the adventure, the stillness of a swampy river delta clad in the most luxuriant of ancient rimu and kaihikiteas in the estuaries of the south Okarito state forest, then back across the calming waters of the lake as the sun sets. 
The special feature of this trip is the slowing pace of the weather, the change in dusky light. Whether fine or cloudy, each evening present moody visual textures only found in the wide open reaches of the coastal section of the park and 14 kms from the alpine peaks.
