FAQ

What is your cancellation policy?

Cancellations/date changes must be made a full 24 hours prior to the trip time. Cancellations made within the 24 hour time frame cannot be refunded so please let us know if you need to change or cancel your booking. Private/Group bookings or charters incur a 48 hour cancellation policy. This is specifically advised at the time of booking. Tours require minimum numbers to operate. We reserve the right to cancel tours if numbers are not met or in the event of adverse weather conditions.

What is needed to make a booking?

Payment and booking is easy and secure with our online booking system. All you need is a credit card. Please note: If you need cancel we’ll refund you in full as long as it’s outside of our 24 hr cancellation policy. If we cancel the tour on the day due to weather, you will also receive a full trip refund.

What if it’s raining?

Like true west coasters – we get out there rain or shine! Rain is the main ingredient in our beautiful temperate rainforest. Lake Mapourika often remains dry while it is raining in town due to being a greater distance from the Southern Alps.

What should I bring?

A snack, a water-bottle, camera (if you want your own photos as well as our FREE photos), sunglasses and sunscreen.

What should I wear?

Winter: At least 2-3 warm layers for your top half. No jeans please. You’ll need to bring clothing suitable for the day. Wear pants you’ll be comfortable to sit in for a few hours, and shoes/boots/sandals – up to you. Your feet will stay dry. We provide jackets, paddling ‘pogies’ (for your hands), dry bags and caps/beanies. & FREE photos!

How old do children need to be?

If they fit our life jackets, they can come along! The youngest explorer we’ve had to date was 1 year old. Feel free to contact us with any questions! We always recommend the morning trip times when booking with young children as this is the calmest time of day for paddling. Infants (under 3 years) must join one of our Kayak Discovery Tours.

Will I get wet?

Except for the odd splash you probably won’t get wet. We provide all specialist equipment to keep you warm and dry. Swimming is an option during the warm summer months!

Can I rent a kayak?

Unfortunately due to our travel limitations (being 10 kms from the Lake) and for safety reasons we cannot hire out our kayaks. Guided trips are our priority.
